Steinway & Sons
A legacy of craftsmanship

In the world of musical instruments, few names resonate with the depth and prestige of Steinway & Sons.

Revered by musicians and discerning collectors alike, when considering an investment in a piano, particularly one that combines unparalleled craftsmanship, timeless elegance and cultural heritage, a Steinway grand piano is the paragon of musical excellence.

Each piano is entirely hand-built and takes over a year to make, every part is finely constructed by master craftsmen under a preserved, master and apprentice tradition, that traverses generations. Such dedication to a standard means that only 3000 Steinway pianos are made per year.

At Besbrode Pianos, we house entire floor dedicated to the family of Steinway pianos. As a Steinway specialist, our curated collection of pre-owned, grand and upright Steinway models rivals any other UK dealer, offering an assortment of cabinet styles from differing time periods. Within this selection, perhaps 10 of these are rebuilt models.

Why Rebuild a Steinway Piano?

Pianos have over 10,000 moving parts. Over course of a few decades depending on numerous factors such as ambient conditions in which the piano has been housed or amount of usage, it may be desirable to undertake a rebuild to bring the piano back to its original standard and thus ensure the instrument's longevity.

The rebuilding process of a Steinway is not merely about restoring functionality, it ensures that the piano retains its legendary tonal qualities whilst meeting modern performance standards.

Over the years, a piano cabinet can suffer knocks and scratches. Antique styled cabinets have mouldings and carvings that may have become loose or fallen off. Through a rebuild, these issues can be addressed and the cabinet can be repaired and repolished, bringing it back to its original splendour.

Benefits of a Rebuilt Steinway Piano?

The market for rebuilt Steinway pianos is both vibrant and discerning. Investing in a rebuilt Steinway piano offers numerous advantages.

Firstly, it provides access to the Steinway sound and touch at a more accessible price point compared to new models. While a new Steinway piano represents the pinnacle of modern piano manufacturing, it also comes with a significant price tag that may be out of reach for some buyers. On the other hand, a used Steinway piano, while more affordable, may require repairs and maintenance to restore it to its optimal condition. A rebuilt Steinway piano bridges the gap between these two options, offering the best of both worlds: the prestige and craftsmanship of a Steinway piano, combined with affordability and the reliability of a fully restored instrument.

Secondly, owning a rebuilt Steinway allows one to possess essentially a new instrument, reborn to meet the standards of today's finest concert halls and private collections, whilst acquiring a collector's piece enriched with the antique styling and exquisite veneers of a vintage Steinway cabinet.

Owning a Steinway is an investment in sound and a lifetime of musical exploration, a meeting of elegance, legacy, and technology, all under the revered Steinway name. Whether for personal enjoyment, professional performance, or as a cornerstone of a collection, a Steinway is poised to enrich the lives of those who play it, for generations to come.

Our Steinway Rebuilds

On entry into our showroom, each Steinway piano assessed individually. We may decide a rebuild is required to bring the piano back to its original standard. We rebuild pianos of all ages, not all are antique examples. Some Steinways however, do not require a rebuild and a simple reconditioning is adequate.
