Restored Schiedmayer

Restored, Schiedmayer grand piano for sale with a french polished, burr walnut cabinet. The burr walnut is figured creating rippled patterns in the veneer reminiscent of oil on water. The serpentine piano cheek features carvings of scrolling foliage, spirals and a dual linear case moulding that borders the cabinet in high relief. The cut-out filigree music desk features stylised flowers and foliage in an arabesque design. The piano lyre is a traditional design with two brass pedals. The lid stay is a simple rod in form. The faceted piano legs have carved domed tops and brass wheels.

Schiedmayer

Schiedmayer is the name of a highly respected, German instrument manufacturer. It was established in 1735 as a keyboard instrument manufacturer. Keyboard making within the family spanned multiple generations. The first instrument maker in the family was Balthasar Schiedmayer, an organ and piano maker in Erlangen, who built his first instrument in 1735. Three of his sons also learned the art of piano making. Schiedmayer & Sons and J & P Schiedmayer became the two largest piano manufacturing firms in South Germany. After 1984 Schiedmayer pianos were made both by Kemble in the UK and Kawai in Japan.
