Description

Reconditioned, 2014, Brodmann BG-187 grand piano a black case and brass fittings. The piano prop stick features an indented half prop to allow the lid to be opened at differing heights. The maker's name and monogram is displayed on the side of the piano cabinet in brass lettering. The spade piano legs feature dual brass casters.

Brodmann

Joseph Brodmann was a piano maker in Vienna in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He came to Vienna as a young man, to be an apprentice under the piano builder Frederick Hoffmann. At that time, Vienna was the center of the musical world with music from Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. Musicians and composers, including Beethoven and von Weber, owned and played Brodmann pianos. Brodmann's pioneering work laid the groundwork for his most talented apprentice, Ignaz Bosendorfer, whose pianos are still considered among the finest in the world. Bosendorfer took over Joseph Brodmann’s workshops in 1828 and began to make Bosendorfer pianos. Today, Vienna-based Brodmann continues the legacy.
