Mid Century Modern

Mid Century Modern was popular from roughly 1945 to 1969. MCM design evolved in response to a post War II environnment. Designers and architects were eager to develop new ideas that married mass production and technology with a more optimistic look of the future. The MCM design aesthetic is modern in style and construction, aligned with the Modernist movement of the period. It is typically characterized by clean, simple, geometric or curved lines and honest use of materials, and it generally does not include decorative embellishments. Wood, metal, glass and vinyl used in tension to create a unique look. The mid-century look is all about stripping items down to their barest elements and letting their function stand out. Whilst focussing on simplistic shapes, a second layer of visual interest is often added incorporating bold pops of color to make a piece stand out in a room.

Monington & Weston

Monington & Weston Monington & Weston was a piano manufacturer in London, England. It existed between 1858 and 1975. Originally the company was called Monington & Co. James Weston joined later. In the 1870's the company was awarded gold medals in London and Paris. In 1909 it provided pianos to the Royal residence of Sandringham. The double iron frame added to the back of uprights and grands, made them popular in countries with a warmer climate as the frame expanded with changes in temperature. In the 1930s, the company produced one of the few traditional 6-octave uprights.
