Georg Fortner upright piano for sale with an ornately carved, mahogany case and ornate candlesticks. Cabinet features carved flowers, foliage, musical instruments and grotesque heads on each piano cheek. Carvings created by Julius Bechler, wood carver to King Ludwig II. Piano has an eighty-five note keyboard and two pedals.

Ornately Carved

Antique, Georg Fortner upright piano for sale with an ornately carved, mahogany case in high relief. The front panel is carved with musical instruments and a central lyre in high relief. The candlesticks are in an organic foliar design with naturalistic foliage and flowers. The broad, carved pilaster has an ionic capital with dual volutes, adorned with palm leaves. The piano cheek, carved in an S-scroll features a decorative finial and a carved grotesque head. The piano profile features a carved stylised winged shield adorned with shells and strapwork.

Julius Bechler

This exquiste upright piano was made to order by the german piano manufacturer Georg Fortner in Munich. The extravagant cabinet carvings were created by the famous wood sculpter, Julius Bechler, who ordered the piano for his private home in the the town Achensee in Austria. Julius Bechler was an appointed wood artist for King Ludwig II, owner of the famous Castle Neuschwanstein. Mr. Bechler worked under the King on several castles and created the ornate carvings for this piano for its residency at his home. The piano has been the possession of the Bechler family, at the family home in Austria until now. This is a wonderful opportunity to own an art piece with the fairytale aura from around the King Ludwig II.
