A Johannes Morley Clavichord with a polished, rosewood case. The tone is made by a small metal hammer or 'tangent' striking the string. The clavichord was an instrument that early musicians considered uniquely expressive. They enjoyed its singing characteristics as compared to the more powerful harpsichord. Whilst the harpsichord was for concerts and larger auditoriums, the clavichord was for the personal enjoyment of the musician with sensitive musical taste. The clavichord is the ideal keyboard for someone in a small apartment. |
