An 1883, Neoclassical style, Bechstein Model C
grand piano with a contrasting pear and ebony case. Entire cabinet features ornately carved elements. This piano was sent to a furniture makers in Munich where the decoration was added post production. A copy of the Bechstein records still exist today. The style was based on the designs of Classical Greece and Rome. Here, high-relief carvings of female figureheads surround the entire case. The legs, almost shaped like Grecian vases feature lions heads sitting on the top. The piano lyre features a filigree plate reminiscient of basketwork with anthemions (stylized palms), scrolls and feathers as decoration. The cut-out music desk also depicts intertwining arabesques, scrolls and anthemions. Around the entire piano lid are carved arabesques, rosettes, fleur de lys, beading and anthemions pulling the whole design together.
